About

Plinth, Lisbon

A small shop with a short list.

Plinth sells sixteen objects for the desk, the shelf and the counter. We choose them slowly, sell them plainly and mend them when they wear.

Where we started

We got tired of shops with two thousand things.

In 2021 three of us cleared a Lisbon workshop of everything except a bench and a radio, and started repairing the radios of friends. Some of them we could not fix, so we drew a better one.

That radio became Ambit. Every object since has followed the same rule: it has to do one job well, be mendable with a screwdriver, and look right on a shelf for ten years.

We keep the range small on purpose. A list of sixteen is a list you can read, and a list you can read is a shop you can trust.

How we work

Three rules, written down.

01

One job, done well

Nothing on the list has a second function it does badly. A kettle boils and pours. A clock tells the time.

02

Mendable by anyone

Every object opens with a screwdriver, and the parts that wear out are sold separately for five years.

03

Priced in the open

The price, delivery and returns are written once and never change. No countdowns, no fake stock, no surprise fees.
